The TAMUS LSAMP 2016 Symposium was held on March 3rd-4th by Texas A&M University at Galveston. Participants arrived on Thursday morning and was welcomed with lunch and an opening speech from Dr. Debbie Thomas.

Afternoon activities for the students included professional development presentations, poster sessions, and a graduate school fair. Dr. Leolon Martin hosted a professional development session about mastering emotional intelligence. Additionally, Dr. Barbara Szczerbinska led a session on developing negotiation skills. For the evening, students traveled to Galveston’s Moody Gardens. There, participants were able to enjoy dinner and a visit to the aquarium.

The second day of activities kicked off with breakfast where participants had the chance to network with each other. Several professional development presentations were held starting with Dr. Mustafa Al Lail’s presentation on excelling in undergraduate research. This session was followed by a presentation covering topics in having a successful internship. The symposium closed with lunch and awards ceremony with guest speaker Dr. Ashanti Johnson.
