The NSF-funded Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) Program in Interdisciplinary Materials Research at Southern Illinois University is currently accepting applications for the Summer of 2020 (its 15th summer of operation).
This program is particularly interested in attracting candidates (preferably in their first, second, or third years of college) from groups traditionally under-represented in Chemistry, Physics, and Engineering; as always, all applications are welcome.
Review of applications will commence after February 24, 2020; applications received after that date will still be reviewed until all positions are filled.
Housing dates of this year’s program will be Tuesday, May 26, 2020 to Saturday, July 25, 2020.
In order to be eligible, students must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Those students selected for the program will receive a stipend worth nearly $5,000. The students will also be provided space in a 2-person room in University Housing paid for by the University. (The interns are expected to pay for their own meals.) Students are also provided with a travel allowance of $750.00, to help defray the cost of traveling to and from SIUC or to travel to a scientific conference. A $1000 research allowance is also provided to support each student’s research project.
