The Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering Department (MAE) at Clarkson University is seeking applications for three highly motivated PhD students to conduct research in the area of complex fluid mechanics and fluid dynamics. Our Lab also seeks a Postdoctoral fellow to assist in developing and testing the objectives including:
- Develop an analytical model which describes the particle-laden flows over porous media,
- Linearly perturb the equations using spectral methods to define the velocity and concentration profiles in a perturbed system,
- Design innovative experimental setups, and
- Experimentally validate the models using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and particle image velocimetry (PIV) measurements.
Applicants are expected to have a strong foundation in Fluid mechanics and Fluid dynamics. Candidates with experience on particle-laden flows as well as flow over porous media are preferred. MATLAB and Machine shop experience are a plus. Excellent communication and written skills are required along with demonstrated success in previous academic research. The postdoctoral fellow must have a PhD in an engineering discipline, good mechanical design skills, and experience in technologies such as MRI, and PIV. Additionally, the selected candidate will be expected to oversee students, write reports and publish peer-reviewed journal articles. Additional admission requirements are described in the following link at: http://graduate.clarkson.edu/program/mechanical-and-aeronautical-engineering-ms-me-phd/.
The appointment includes a stipend, full tuition, and benefits. Outstanding candidates are invited to submit a letter of application detailing their relevant background, providing the names and e-mail addresses of at least three references, a CV, and copies of relevant reprints and pre-prints. Send the application (single PDF file) to Dr. Parisa Mirbod (firstname.lastname@example.org). Visit group website (http://afsweb.clarkson.edu/~pmirbod/index.html) or send email to Dr. Parisa Mirbod for more information about the research program.
